Don't tell me truth hurts.

Tic's cheeks burned, eyes stinging with the anguish of having been disbelieved. His head began to shake, faintly denying Larkin's words with a subtle turn. It didn't move far, stopping as the hand on his arm moved to his shoulder. It was closer to his face now, becoming more discomforting as Larkin leaned in, asking him for lies. He stared up, helplessly constrained to speak the truth.

"I.. ," he began, soft and unheard. He took a breath and searched for the sound, eyes squinting softly. Glancing downwards, he spoke again, face strewn with disquiet, "I can't... "

But his voice trailed off, failing to reach his lips. The words were lost somewhere in his throat, unable to return to him, unable to respond. It had suddenly become a struggle to say the rest; to speak again, and not fear denial. He knew this would be displeasing, but he couldn't find his voice. He couldn't get himself to speak. He couldn't get himself to simply say... 'because I was telling the truth.'
