To never die.

A gasp escaped Tic's lips as a sharp grip suddenly seized his arm, forcing his feet to an ill-prepared halt. His body went numb with cold as he twisted to take sight of his captor. A pair of familiar, orange eyes leered down upon him for a moment -- then shifted ahead, to Miraye. She was still running; fleeing from the oncoming guards.

Thoughts blurred with fear, he felt his voice cry out to her -- a cry cut off by the sudden dam of gloved, needled fingers pressing against his lips. He gasped softly, the warmth of his breaths echoed against the hand. Squinting through a sudden tear-stained vision, he saw Miraye turn from her run -- and stop -- stop from escape; from a return to freedom.

".. Go," his thoughts screamed at her. "Just go on!" And their eyes met through a distant, but linked gaze; all else seemed to dim. She looked on with anguish, longing to go back for him. "... No! Just go! Please!" Larkin reminded the guards of her capture as she stood still, unmoving. "... Just ... go ..." And in that moment, they stared, quivering, longing for eternity -- to never forget; to never be broken. She understood, turned, and ran.

But the guards were so close behind. Please, make it. Please get away.

The fingers slid away from Tic's lips to rest upon his shoulder. The man's voice sounded from close behind him, sending a thrill up his spine. "Now, Tic. Why would you ever think of doing such a thing as escaping?"

Tic remained silent, gazing after the furthering crowd of guards chasing Miraye. His heart pounded violently against his heaving chest, resounding in his ears.

"You know you can't," Larkin said coolly. "You may as well make yourself comfortable." The familiar pressures and numbness washed over Tic as he stared on, avoiding the man's presence. Larkin paused for a moment, squeezing Tic's shoulder gently. "And why would I want to hurt you?"

Tic breathed deeply, clenching his fists as his body tensed. He watched the last of the guards disappear from the corridor, leaving him and Larkin alone in silence. The man didn't seem punitive, as he so feared he would -- but, but why? W-what's he trying to do?
