The truth.. to an extent

Stelon shifted her eyes somewhat nervously as Larkin quite obviously noticed her search for her friends. She felt her heart beat a bit quicker, but it calmed again as he said nothing of it and smiled at her.

"It will do no such thing, but you have to allow me your company after the festivities."

She ran this through her mind and nodded, smiling cheerfully before replying calmly, "I would like that..."

The Shrike smiled at her and she felt her heart skip a beat. His smile, like everything else about him, was absolutely radiant.

Stelon continued to smile back at him, and tried not to look distant as she remembered the people she had come with. Miraye, Imera, Farrago, and Matty were the only company she'd had in ages. They were not the nicest of people, yet they hadn't been cruel to her either. They were the first companions she had ever truly had, and she had come here with them to free Tic. Free Tic from Larkin; the man who she was currently enthralled with. Looking upon his face, she could see no trace of the cruelty Miraye and Matthias had spoken of. Indeed, all she could see was the kindness he had shown her so far. As for Tic...she stood by her feelings of earlier. He seemed well cared for, and not on the abused side at all.

She began wondering if maybe Miraye and Matthias had been wrong, perhaps they had done something to actually deserve what happened...Larkin spoke to her again, and shook her from her thoughts suddenly.

"Who's out there, Stelon?"

Stelon bit her lip again, and knew very well that lying to him would get her nowhere. He knew she had come with someone; or at least that she knew somebody there, and she would not get away with telling him there was no one. She did not wish to lie to him anyway...thinking rather rapidly, she finally let her eyes meet his again.

"There was a girl I met...and I no longer see her out there," she shrugged before continuing, "It's of no importance...I spoke little to her and perhaps she was just feeling ill."

She felt better knowing she had told him the truth to an extent. She had met Farrago, Miraye, and Imera. She just didn't tell him there were three. And it was true also, that she had spoken little to them. And as things were, she was uncertain she wished to remain with them now, making it of little importance. She smiled slightly at him and hoped he wouldn't press her for more information.
